The Rectus Peg Flap The Rectus Peg Flap consists of fatty tissue from the abdomen which is connected to the Rectus muscle for circulation. The circular Peg of skin is used only for reconstruction of the nipple and areola. The soft tissues of the Peg Flap are used to replace the missing breast tissue that was removed during the skin-sparing mastectomy. The flap is transferred from the abdomen to the breast through a surgically created pathway beneath the skin of the upper abdomen. The nipple and areola are pigmented 6 weeks later. To play, press |
