Latissimus Dorsi Peg Flap

The soft tissue of the latissimus Dorsi Peg Flap consists of muscle and fatty tissue. The circular Peg of skin is used only for reconstruction of the nipple and areola. The soft tissues of the Peg Flap are used to replace the missing breast tissue that was removed during the skin-sparing mastectomy. The flap is transferred from the back to the breast through a surgically created pathway beneath the skin of the underarm area. The nipple and areola are pigmented 6 weeks later.
